Student Achievement!

I’m so proud of my student Martine Fuller! She has been studying Level 4 Merishia Massage with me over the last year and it has been a great journey for her.

Last week she had a huge breakthrough with one of the horses she has been using as a case study.

This little guy was very head shy when she visited him at the end of January. This made it difficult for her to assess and treat the region around his poll and ears as he didn’t want her to touch him – he was throwing his head and snorting at her!

Following submission of her case study, Martine and I discussed a couple of techniques she could try to gain his trust so that he would allow her to touch him here. This was a really important step as he had some tension and soreness in this area (probably why he didn’t want to be touched) that would really benefit from the new techniques that Martine had learnt at her last practical session.

Martine has been a very conscientious student throughout the course and took these comments on board. I was so pleased to receive a message from her, containing this video of her being able to touch his head, ears and poll. I love how soft his eyes are! Well done Martine, what a fantastic outcome!

Wound Healing with K-Laser

I have to share these photos – I’ve been waiting for a good visual case study to demonstrate how well the laser works for wound healing.

Billy had a small argument with a fence and injured the front of his hock. Wounds in this region are notoriously awkward to heal as they reopen and close with each articulation of the joint.

When I first came out to this injury it was already 2 weeks old and was being bandaged, with bandages being changed every 2 – 3 days. This was quite handy as we could laser each time the bandage was due for a change.

Before laser/session 1- 23/09/19

A fairly big wound right on the bendy bit!!

Second session – 23/09/19

Already smaller in size with some good healing around the edges.

Third session – 25/09/19

We were surprised at how quickly the wound size was decreasing, with lovely healthy skin growing in from the edges.

Fourth session – 27/09/19

The bandage had now come off completely and without the daily compression the joint and lower leg had swelled a fair bit. However the wound itself still showed good progress with the edges really closing in. At this stage we were a little worries about it forming proud flesh but luckily he was also under the watchful eye of the vets at Milbourn Equine who were recieving daily photos! The wait and watch approach worked nicely and no additional intervention was required.

Fifth session – 04/10/19

No proud flesh here folks!! And the swelling going down nicely.

Sixth session – 29/10/19

Wow!

I revisited Billy just last week for a McTimoney session and I cannot believe how this now looks – no swelling, no scarring, just a lovely ginger leg:

Pupdate

A little pupdate on Bex!

We’ve now had her 6 (!!) weeks and she’s growing so much. She’s now caught up with Juice in size and has overtaken him in weight!

It’s so nice to be able to walk 2 dogs again ❤️ although Bex’s walks are short and sweet as she’s still so young. We want to make sure we don’t over do it with her whilst she’s still growing.

I’ve started training her with some canine conditioning exercises to make sure that as she grows, she is also developing her core strength and using her body properly.

More pupdates to follow, but for now, just this awesome picture that proves I really do have the greatest job that allows me to take these two out at lunch time 🙂

Student Assessments

Another cohort of Merishia Massage students finished their practical training this week and all successfully passed their assessed massage session!

The dogs were all super chilled after their massages and Pixie (who is normally shaking like a leaf) found a new friend in Amanda, who wanted to take her home!

I have to extend massive thanks to Avril for letting us use her horses again! These horses aren’t the most straight forward, with some having previous emotional/physical traumas but the students all worked really well to create a calm and relaxed barn by the end of the day!

Amanda found another friend in Woody ❤️

I have another set of practical dates starting in April 2020. If you’re interested in training to become a Merishia Animal Massage practitioner, please contact Jo Rose through the website. This course is a level 4 diploma and gives you everything you need to become a fully qualified massage therapist.
