Do animals enjoy their treatments?

When a picture says a thousand words….

I took these photos a couple of weeks ago.

As a general rule, all the animals I treat find their sessions relaxing and enjoyable. In fact, it is not uncommon for them to fall asleep!

Bill the lurcher is a great one for nodding off during his treatments. He can be a little wary when he is feeling sore, but the bliss face he so beautifully demonstrated for this photo is a sure sign that he is enjoying himself 😊

Whinnie decided to use her loaner as a leaning post during her last session. It was a spectacular September day and we were all enjoying the sunshine. She was feeling so relaxed she just needed somewhere to prop her head πŸ˜‚

Coursework

The end is in sight for my canine conditioning course! All of my coursework for the final unit has to be in next Friday.

I’m very proud of myself that I haven’t left everything until the very last minute, like I usually do! I am just finishing off my case studies and feel like everything will easily be completed on time – this is definitely an unusual feeling for me. I am always that person pulling all nighters right before deadline day πŸ˜‚

Today, Juice is offering me some moral support as I stare at the computer screen πŸ˜ŠπŸ•

Horse of the Year Show

I’m so pleased for Claire that she and Harry are off to HOYS in a few weeks, and feel very honoured that I get to play a small role in their progression!

Sometimes the problems that I treat do not cause the horse to go lame or stop work completely but may just manifest as a slight drop in performance. Claire had noticed that Harry wasn’t performing as he normally did in the ring. Her farrier also noticed he wasn’t himself at shoeing, and as Claire mentions in this article, it only took one treatment to get him back to his winning ways 😍

Keeping Cool

Haven’t we been having an amazing summer so far? The weather here in Kent has been glorious for weeks now, and I am loving it… However it does present its challenges.

Really the ground and plants could do with some rain and that’s making life difficult for some of you with horses out at grass and will of course impact on riding and competitions.

My dogs are not getting walked as much as normal and when they do get walked it’s usually late at night or early in the morning. I don’t do well in the heat if I’m rushing about and neither of mine seem to have had much energy for anything, so we’ve been keeping them cool indoors. When they have been outside in the garden, they have been finding their own ways to cool down:
